If you were to make a list of some of the greatest shows of all time, it would be hard to put Avatar: The Last Airbender far from the top. The show is held in high regard, not only as one of the greatest animated shows ever, but also as one of the most timeless series ever, which continues to age like a fine wine year after year. The show tells the story of Aang, a young Airbender who wakes up in an iceberg after 100 years to find the world at war, and everyone is looking at him to stop it.
The original Avatar series was such a success that it came as no surprise that there were spin-offs, including The Legend of Korra, which follows a Waterbending Avatar after Aang, who inherits a world of peace. However, amidst the calm are those who would look to stir up a storm, which proved troublesome for Korra. M. Night Shyamalan also tried and failed to adapt the series into a live-action movie, and Netflix is in the process of trying its hand at turning the show into a live-action product. Season 2 of the live-action series will be released later this year.
The next spin-off comes in the form of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, a new animated film that will follow the Aang gang several years after the events of Season 3. The film is scheduled for release later this year on October 9, but it will premiere straight to Paramount+ and not in theaters. One of the film’s co-directors, Lauren Montgomery, recently took to his personal Instagram account to confirm that The Legend of Aang has already wrapped filming ahead of its October premiere.
