The Witcher 3 Online Multiplayer Update Surprises Players

The Witcher 3 is one of those games that just won’t die. Rumors have been swirling for some time about an official DLC to tie into the upcoming Witcher 4, and the TV show has brought in a whole new audience for the series.

The modding community has also been instrumental in keeping The Witcher 3 relevant long after its 2015 release. Over a decade later, work has been progressing on the multiplayer mod, and you can grab the latest version on NexusMods now.

It’s Getting There

If you haven’t partaken yet, here’s what the mod is all about: “Witcher Online is a mod that adds multiplayer to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, turning your single player experience into an MMO experience. Join servers to play with your friends, customize your character using Custom Player Characters and relax in taverns using Chill Out. Chat with strangers and perform emotes to roleplay with other players. Complete quests alongside friends. The focus of this mod is to allow you to see other players on their adventure exploring throughout the world. A non-pirated copy of the latest version of Next Gen, Steam or GOG version 4.04+ is required.”

By joining up with a public server, you can interact with other players. Before, many of the actions were limited (making it a sort of social hangout mod), but thanks to a 2.0 update, it’s a little more fully featured. Trading is in, with an in-game system that lets players see items to trade and agree to trade them (rather than dropping items on the ground like in old-school Diablo).

Boats and horses now sync, allowing players to ride Roach (or other horses) together. “Morphing” is also in, which lets players transform into various animals, including cats, crows, or owls. This feature is pretty enticing for someone who hasn’t played The Witcher 3 in a while, since exploring the overworld in animal form would be fun.

As far as ancillary updates go, there’s also 50+ player emotes at this point, including ones with props like Fortnite. Stability has also increased as a result of the 2.0 update. It’s steadily progressing into a real multiplayer mode.

Even More So Than The Original

If you’ve ever played a lobby hangout mod before, things can get pretty hectic. There are tons of people running and jumping around on public servers, and that’s before you even get to any group activities or quests.

If you want to jump back into The Witcher 3, now might be a good time with the multiplayer mod in tow. It could be a great way to acclimate and dive into the core game, including a pretty cool quest you may have missed.
