During his recent appearance on the Podioslave Podcast (available for viewing below), Weinberg shared insights on various topics, ranging from his unique approach to drumming in new bands to fond memories of playing organized hockey as a child.
As the conversation progressed, Weinberg delved into his artistic inspirations and expressed immense admiration for Clutch drummer Jean-Paul Gaster. His reflections highlighted Gaster’s significant influence on his musical journey.
Weinberg stated, “He’s like a mentor to me in many ways,” referring to Gaster. “Although we only see each other every couple of years, our conversations are always enriching and insightful.” This emphasizes the importance of mentorship and connection in the music industry.
He elaborated on Gaster’s dedication to continuous learning in drumming techniques and their historical roots. Following this, Weinberg passionately expressed his admiration for Clutch.
“I believe everyone should look to them as a model for how to operate as a band,” he asserted to the podcast hosts. “They have maintained the same lineup since the early 1980s, consistently creating inspiring music on their own terms and self-releasing their work.” This sentiment underscores the value of authenticity and longevity in the music scene.
Taking his praise further, Weinberg exclaimed, “They’re like the Led Zeppelin of our generation or something close to that. Their talent is simply astounding, and they excel in every facet of their musical endeavors.”
Interestingly, the podcast hosts chose not to probe further into this bold claim, leaving listeners intrigued.
