Tom Hardy’s Team-Up with Guy Ritchie Tops Streaming Charts

It was recently announced that one of British cinema’s best pairings, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham, will be back together for their sixth project as they adapt J.J. Connolly’s 2011 novel Viva La Madness. Although the novel is a follow-up to another modern British crime favorite, Layer Cake, the upcoming project is being billed as a stand-alone movie. As the excitement for Ritchie’s next project builds, one of his most recent has returned to the iTunes charts. At the time of writing, the Paramount+ gangster crime drama, MobLand, is one of the most-watched shows on iTunes, a list currently topped by the ever-popular Breaking Bad.

Featuring a typically Ritchie star-studded cast — headlined by Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy, and Helen Mirren — the series proved incredibly popular during its run earlier this year, so much so that an inevitable second season was greenlit back in June. The rest of the cast includes the likes of Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, and Jasmine Jobson, with Ritchie directing the opening two episodes before passing the baton to Anthony Byrne, Daniel Syrkin, and Lawrence Gough. For anyone yet to see the series, a synopsis for MobLand reads:

“Power is up for grabs as two warring crime families clash in a battle that threatens to topple empires. In the crossfire stands Harry Da Souza, a street-smart ‘fixer’ who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.”

Was ‘MobLand’ a Hit With Critics?

An unmistakably popular show on streaming, was MobLand a hit with critics? On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the show boasts a strong 76%, a score just higher than Ritchie’s other major small-screen project, The Gentlemen. In Nate Richard‘s review of MobLand for Collider, he awarded the series 7/10, praising Ritchie’s opening two episodes in particular, as well as Hardy’s central performance. “Much like Taylor Sheridan has demonstrated through shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King, Ritchie has a real knack for making TV shows that’ll keep you invested,” Richard wrote, adding, “MobLand isn’t a grand reinvention of the gangster show, but it does offer plenty of twists and turns, paired with a magnetic cast that will have you eagerly anticipating every new episode.”

Guy Ritchie’s MobLand is one of the most-streamed shows on the iTunes charts. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming updates from all the biggest movies and shows.
