Tour Dates Canceled by Steve Miller Due to Disaster Concerns

Renowned musician Steve Miller has made the difficult decision to cancel his band’s upcoming tour plans, citing the increasing threat of natural disasters like floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes as the primary reason for this choice. He expressed that the risks posed to his band, crew, and loyal fans have become “unacceptable,” emphasizing the importance of safety over performance.

In a heartfelt social media announcement posted on Wednesday night, Miller, who was slated to kick off a 28-date U.S. tour on August 15 in Bethel, New York, mentioned that he is following his instincts rather than jeopardizing anyone’s safety. He stated:

You create music by trusting your instincts.

You navigate life by following your instincts.

Always listen to your instincts…

The Steve Miller Band has decided to cancel all upcoming tour dates.

The blend of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, and extensive forest fires makes the risks for you—our audience, the band, and the crew—unacceptable. Therefore…

You can attribute this to the weather… The tour is canceled.

We are uncertain about the future… We hope to reconnect with all of you soon.

Wishing you all Peace, Love, and Happiness,

Please look after one another.

So far, Miller has performed only one concert in 2025, which took place on February 28 at a casino in Oklahoma. His announcement comes just three weeks after Chrissie Hynde, the lead singer of the Pretenders, predicted the potential end of outdoor concerts in a similar social media post.

On June 23, Hynde expressed, “Hope everyone is coping with the heat wave.” She recalled the previous years when they supported Guns N’ Roses and The Foo Fighters in stadiums, stating, “It was so hot I had to strap ice packs around my waist. It dawned on me then that outdoor events might be coming to an end. The heat is just too extreme.”

This year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee was also canceled due to severe weather conditions on June 13, after only one of the four planned nights was completed.
