Netflix officially confirmed the renewal of Wednesday on January 6, 2023. In the announcement video for Season 2, Jenna Ortega, portraying Wednesday Addams, shares a perfectly on-brand message: “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. It’s been pure torture. Thank you.” This statement perfectly encapsulates the character’s morbid charm and the show’s unique appeal.
The streaming giant also announced that “more misery is coming” and that this “global phenomenon” will make its triumphant return for Season 2, which has fans eagerly anticipating the new episodes.
“It’s been incredible to create a show that has resonated with audiences worldwide. We are thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into Season Two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore Academy. Just need to ensure that Wednesday hasn’t drained the pool first,” remarked creators/showrunners/executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in their statement to Tudum.
Wednesday quickly became a cultural phenomenon for Netflix upon its debut on November 23, 2022. In its very first week, the series garnered an impressive 341.23 million hours viewed, establishing a new record for the most hours watched in a week for any English-language TV series on Netflix. It surpassed Stranger Things 4, which previously held the record with 335 million hours viewed in its inaugural week. Moreover, Wednesday shattered another Netflix record in its second week, amassing an astounding 411.29 million hours viewed.
The fascination with Wednesday Addams began with the creation of the fictional family by cartoonist Charles Addams. The original Addams Family television series debuted in 1964, while feature films starring Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams first appeared in the 1990s, helping to cement her status in pop culture.
Mark Your Calendars for the ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Release Date
The first part of Wednesday Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on August 6, 2025, with the highly-anticipated second part set to drop on September 3, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
Filming for this exciting new season began in early 2024, following delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes as unions negotiated new agreements with studios. Notably, the production for Season 2 has relocated to Ireland, a significant shift from Season 1, which was filmed in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022.

Meet the Talented Cast & Crew of ‘Wednesday’ Season 2
Jenna Ortega is, of course, reprising her role as Wednesday Addams—and this time, she’s taking on an even bigger role. As revealed in her Elle cover story, Jenna will also serve as an executive producer for Season 2, showcasing her commitment to the project.
With Wednesday returning to Nevermore Academy for another thrilling semester, several familiar faces will be making their return as well. Viewers can expect to see:
-
Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
-
Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
-
Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
-
Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger
All these talented actors will be returning, with the exception of Percy Hynes White, whose absence has left fans wondering how the story will unfold without him.

Hunter Doohan will reprise his role as Tyler Galpin, despite his character being imprisoned at the end of Season 1 after his shocking revelation as the Hyde. He teased that Tyler’s narrative is far from finished, stating to HollywoodLife, “I just want to explore what’s next for Tyler, and if he’s going to come back after Wednesday… I guess the idea left at the end is that he’s really angry enough to transform in that armed vehicle and I assume escape.”
Tyler was previously manipulated by Marilyn Thornhill (played by Christina Ricci), whose fate was left ambiguous at the end of the Season 1 finale. Hunter expressed his interest in discovering “what Tyler and the Hyde are like without having a master in Thornhill,” suggesting intriguing developments in his storyline.

The Addams Family is also anticipated to make appearances throughout the season. Expect to see Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley), George Burcea (Lurch), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) popping in—and fans are hoping for more significant screen time for these beloved characters.
“We felt like we just scratched the surface with those characters, and the actors are so remarkable in those roles,” Miles shared with TVLine. “Catherine is, in my opinion, the perfect Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is vital to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is attempting to carve out her own identity separate from her family is crucial.”
Season 2 is also introducing new characters to the ensemble. Steve Buscemi joins the cast as the new principal of Nevermore Academy. Additionally, Lady Gaga has been confirmed for a mysterious role, with other guest stars including:
-
Thandiwe Newton
-
Haley Joel Osment
-
Heather Matarazzo
-
Joanna Lumley
-
Frances O’Connor
-
Joonas Suotamo
Tim Burton, who directed the first four episodes of Season 1, returns to direct another four episodes in Season 2, ensuring a continuation of the unique visual style that fans love.
Dive into the Intriguing Plot of ‘Wednesday’ Season 2
At Tudum 2025, Netflix premiered the first six minutes of Season 2’s debut episode, titled “Here We Woe Again.” The opening scene showcases Wednesday confronting a serial killer known as the Kansas City Scalper, played by Haley Joel Osment, highlighting her evolving psychic abilities and establishing a darker tone for the new season.
While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in March 2023, Jenna shared a hint about what viewers can expect in season 2. “We just started assembling a writers’ room and discussing it,” she mentioned. “Everyone is really cool. I think we want to elevate the horror aspect a bit and get Wednesday out of any romantic entanglements, allowing her to embrace her individuality and tackle her own mysteries.”

Jenna hinted at future developments during her Variety Actors on Actors interview with ElleFanning in 2023. She indicated that they aim to “lean into the horror element of the show” more in the upcoming season.
“I recently received a few outlines for the initial episodes. So the storyline is still coming together,” she shared. “We’ve had numerous discussions and made decisions on aspects we want to enhance and explore further. We aim to delve deeper into the horror aspect of the show, as it is typically light-hearted. We are planning to move away from any romantic interests for Wednesday, which is fantastic. Plus, we have such remarkable female leads in the series.” She concluded, “Expect us to be bolder and delve into darker themes.”
By the end of the first season, Nevermore Academy was closed for the rest of the semester. Co-showrunner Alfred noted to THR that the closure “provides us with the greatest opportunities for Season 2, and that’s something we’re eager to explore.”
He emphasized that the series fundamentally revolves around the theme of “female friendship” between Wednesday and Enid. However, many fans speculate that Wednesday and Enid share romantic feelings for each other. Here’s what Miles had to say about this intriguing dynamic:
“As Al mentioned, the notion of sisterhood is fundamental to the series. We’re not dismissing any possibilities, and, naturally, characters do evolve in unexpected ways, which is the exciting part of television—it’s an organic journey. We have a roadmap, and we’re open to exploring those routes that may lead us in unexpected directions. We want to examine that friendship in every conceivable way, but we aren’t going to be bound by expectations set by fans; we aim to keep the development open and organic as the characters evolve.”
In Season 1, Wednesday did allow herself to feel emotions for Tyler. The shocking revelation of him being the Hyde was certainly a gut punch. In the closing moments of the finale, Xavier gave Wednesday her first phone, hinting that she should reach out to him. The tension between Xavier and Wednesday certainly had a “will-they-or-won’t-they” vibe in Season 1, so Season 2 could explore a potential romance between them.
During Netflix’s TUDUM event on June 17, 2023, the Wednesday cast filmed a video discussing popular fan theories. “Wednesday season 2 is currently in the works, and the plot is so closely guarded that even we don’t know what’s going to unfold,” Emma Myers shared in the video.
