According to Variety, a highly anticipated spinoff series of Sylvester Stallone’s acclaimed show Tulsa King is currently being developed by Paramount+, with the legendary Samuel L. Jackson confirmed to star in the new project.
The upcoming series, tentatively titled NOLA King, will take place in the vibrant city of New Orleans. Samuel L. Jackson is set to make a guest appearance in the third season of Tulsa King to help establish the narrative for the spinoff. According to Deadline, Jackson is expected to portray a character named Russell Lee Washington Jr.. Similar to Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi, Washington Jr. hails from a criminal background and will challenge Dwight in the upcoming season before heading off to assert his dominance in New Orleans.
Currently, the third season of Tulsa King is in production across locations in Atlanta and Oklahoma, with Jackson scheduled to film his scenes in July. If everything goes according to plan, production for NOLA King could kick off in February. The spinoff is being crafted by Dave Erickson, who has a significant role in the Taylor Sheridan universe, serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for both Mayor of Kingstown and the third season of Tulsa King.
Erickson will transition from Tulsa King to the new series, where he will take on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner. This likely means that Tulsa King will need to find yet another new showrunner for its upcoming fourth season, indicating potential shifts in creative direction.
The forthcoming season of Tulsa King promises fresh talent, featuring new cast members such as Robert Patrick, Beau Knapp, and Kevin Pollak, which is sure to add depth and excitement to the storyline.
The official synopsis for Tulsa King season 2 reads: “Dwight (Stallone) and his crew continue to build up and defend their growing empire in Tulsa, but just as they get their bearings, they realize that they’re not the only ones who want to stake their claim. With looming threats from the Kansas City mob and a very powerful local businessman, Dwight struggles to keep his family and crew safe while keeping track of all his affairs. Plus, he still has unfinished business back in New York.”
Our very own Alex Maidy expressed admiration for the new season, stating that it is “as good if not better” than its predecessor. He noted, “This new season further distinguishes itself from other Taylor Sheridan-created series rather than getting lumped in as another show from the guy who made Yellowstone.” Maidy praised Tulsa King as “violent, funny, and the best mob series to hit the air since The Sopranos.” You can check out the rest of his insightful review right here.
