Metallica’s Lars Ulrich expresses immense enthusiasm regarding the potential of the band taking the stage at the iconic Las Vegas Sphere. However, he emphasizes that it remains premature to confirm any plans for a residency at this remarkable venue.
Could Metallica Potentially Perform at the Las Vegas Sphere?
“I’m not going to confirm anything, because there’s nothing to confirm,” the talented drummer shared during his conversation with Howard Stern. “But I’m not going to deny it, because we’re all such fans of this venue. Our management and production teams have visited and evaluated it. It’s on our radar as something we’re seriously considering, but nothing is finalized or officially approved. We’re definitely looking into it for sometime after our 2026 tour wraps up.”
“I was present for U2’s inaugural performance, eager to witness it live before viewing any clips online. Experiencing it live, like many others that night, left me utterly awestruck. It felt like the dawn of a new era in live music performances,” he added, recalling his excitement.
“I’m being completely honest; I would absolutely love to make this happen—there’s no doubt about that. While it hasn’t been officially arranged yet, I wanted to make my enthusiasm clear. If given the chance, I would wholeheartedly embrace it,” he stated passionately.
These remarks were made during the announcement of their brand-new SiriusXM channel, which will debut on August 29. This special launch will be preceded by an exclusive club show in the Hamptons to promote the channel’s opening.

The impressive 17,500-seat Sphere represents a monumental investment of $2.3 billion, making it the largest spherical structure ever constructed. U2 had the honor of being the first band to grace the stage of the Sphere in the fall of 2023, delivering an extraordinary multimedia performance that centered around their acclaimed Achtung Baby album.
Other renowned acts, including Phish, Dead and Company, and The Eagles, have also performed at this groundbreaking venue, with The Eagles slated for several more shows this fall.
Why Would Metallica Performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show Be a Dream Come True?
Next, Stern inquired whether Metallica would be interested in taking the stage for the halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl, set to be held in their hometown of San Francisco.
“Absolutely, we’d be thrilled to do it,” Ulrich responded enthusiastically. “Performing in San Francisco would indeed be a dream come true and a perfect match for us. Although we haven’t received any formal invitation, as a band that has represented San Francisco globally and proudly advocated for our love for the Bay Area, it feels like the right fit. Ultimately, however, it’s not solely our call.”
Looking ahead, Metallica will embark on a six-date tour across Australia and New Zealand in November 2025, with an extensive European tour planned for May, June, and July of 2026.
The band’s latest album, 72 Seasons, was released on April 14, 2023, showcasing their ongoing musical evolution.
