“I had a stroke,” the singer revealed in the interview, published Friday (September 12). “My whole left side went out.”
The singer disclosed that he suffered a stroke in his sleep on Christmas of last year. The band canceled their Las Vegas residency that was scheduled for the spring due to medical reasons. According to Vince, doctors were worried that he might not be able to perform again.
“I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough. The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see,” Vince recalled.
The singer went on to share that through intense physical therapy, he’s been able to recover. He told the publication, “I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn’t walk myself, finally to a wheelchair. I graduated to a walker, and then I had a cane. Now I don’t need anything. But it’s like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again.”
Vince has since re-scheduled the dates for his band’s Las Vegas residency for September and October of this year.
“It’s been tough, but I’m back. I’m 90-, 95-percent to where I was before, and it’s going to be great,” the singer said.
