Teyana Taylor has announced her upcoming emergency vocal cord surgery after doctors discovered a noncancerous growth affecting her vocal health. This unexpected situation has prompted her to take immediate action to address the issue.
In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram Stories, the talented singer expressed: “I’ve been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now. After extensive discussions with my doctors, I’ve been informed that I need to undergo surgery as soon as possible.
“They found a noncancerous growth on one of my vocal cords that has been disrupting my voice and causing significant discomfort. Fortunately, we detected it early, and it is treatable—but this also means I must take a break to allow myself the necessary time to recover fully.”
She continued, expressing her disappointment: “That honestly breaks my heart. I deeply value what it means to be present for all of you. I’ve invested so much of myself into this next chapter—especially the Escape Room, which is still set to release on August 22! So no need to worry there. It’s the most personal body of work I’ve ever created, and the timing… it’s not lost on me. Just as I was preparing to share this with you, life presented me with my own unexpected ‘escape room’—one I didn’t anticipate, but one I must navigate with patience, rest, and faith.”
Despite having to cancel several upcoming engagements, Taylor has assured her fans that her new album Escape Room will still launch as scheduled on August 22, marking her first album release since 2020.
In addition to her new music, fans can also look forward to seeing Taylor in the new film by Paul Thomas Anderson titled One Battle After Another, where she stars alongside renowned actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall.
The latest trailer features the powerful collaboration “Freedom” by Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé, adding an impactful soundtrack to the visuals that were released last month.
In One Battle After Another, DiCaprio and Taylor portray former revolutionaries evading a white supremacist police officer, with Kendrick and Bey’s dynamic anthem providing a fitting backdrop to the intense trailer.
The film is slated for release on September 26, adding to Taylor’s impressive filmography.
Taylor has previously received acclaim for her role in A Thousand and One and has appeared in various films, including Coming 2 America, The Book of Clarence, and the remake of White Men Can’t Jump.
