A man from Louisville has been found guilty of committing horrific acts against his girlfriend and the mother of his child, after he allegedly claimed that she was a willing participant in his abusive behavior. This shocking case came to light following a dramatic rescue that was captured on police bodycam footage, revealing the distressing extent of the abuse she endured.

On Thursday, Moises Could was convicted on all five counts against him, including human trafficking, kidnapping, and harassment involving physical contact. His arrest in August 2023 followed a series of allegations that shocked the community. According to WDRB, the jury has recommended a 35-year prison sentence, with sentencing scheduled for July 2.

Could faced serious allegations, including the use of a machete to cut off the hair of Jonna Wilson, who identified herself as the victim in interviews with local media. Wilson stated she was Could’s estranged girlfriend and mother of one of his children. He is also accused of chaining her by the neck to the floor and forcing her into sexual acts with other men for money, further illustrating the depravity of his actions.

During the trial, Detective Brittany O’Neil provided crucial testimony, revealing that Could claimed Wilson “did it [to] herself,” suggesting that they had an agreement where she would chain herself if she failed to attend rehab. He also alleged that her infidelity contributed to her supposed decision to engage in such behavior.

O’Neil further testified that the circumstances did not appear to support Could’s claims, stating it “did not look like it was something she did to herself,” casting doubt on the credibility of his narrative about Wilson’s actions.

While O’Neil stated that Wilson was coerced into sexual acts with other men for money, jurors were reportedly shown video evidence of some of these encounters. The defense contended that these acts were consensual, a claim that starkly contrasts with the evidence presented.

Regarding the incident in which Wilson’s hair was cut off, O’Neil mentioned Could’s explanation that it occurred after Wilson “lost a bet” during a game of checkers. He later altered his account, claiming she instructed him to cut her hair after he refused to help her dye it.

The bodycam footage reveals officers responding to a distress call from neighbors who heard the victim’s desperate cries for help. Upon arrival, officers found the victim sobbing from a broken second-story window, a distressing sight that highlighted the urgency of the situation. When they attempted to enter the home from the first floor, they discovered that all doors and windows had been barricaded, obstructing their rescue efforts.

With assistance from neighbors, the police officers located a ladder that enabled them to reach the second floor and crawl through the shattered window. Once inside, they were confronted with the agonizing sight of the victim, who was found with a large chain, typically used for dogs, tightly wrapped around her neck and secured with a padlock.

The victim informed the officers that she was unsure of the whereabouts of the keys to the padlock but believed the suspect likely possessed them. “I don’t know, he’s got it on his keys,” she sobbed. “I tried scissors, I tried everything,” highlighting her desperation and the dire situation she faced.

The officers traced the heavy chain down to the floor, discovering that it was bolted to the floorboards. Using a hatchet, one of the officers managed to sever the chain from its anchor, freeing the victim from her horrific captivity.

“Thank you so much,” the victim expressed gratefully upon her release. Once outside, emergency medical services (EMS) and local fire rescuers utilized bolt cutters to remove the chain from her neck, marking the end of her harrowing ordeal.

According to the arrest citation, it was reported that Could had abused the mother of his child in the days leading up to her being chained to the floor. The victim revealed to law enforcement that two days before her rescue, a heated argument escalated into a traumatic incident.

She recounted that Could had forced her into the bathroom, where he held her down and used a machete to violently cut off significant portions of her hair. The victim accused him of further abuse, which law enforcement characterized as Could allegedly “slapping [her] her around before [she] she was able to leave.”

Two days later, on August 16, the victim returned to Could’s home to collect some of her belongings. She reported that Could then secured the doors with a bolt that only he had the key to, according to the arrest citation.

Witness accounts indicated that Could forced the victim to remove some of her clothing, threatening her with statements like, “You’re gonna get it tonight,” and “I told you the next time you leave and don’t come home, I’d kill you,” while slapping her and inflicting physical pain, as reported by police.

The arrest citation further alleged that Could compelled the victim upstairs, where he wrapped the chain around her neck and secured it to the floor, demonstrating the extreme control he exerted over her life.

The suspect allegedly threatened the victim with death, confiscated her phone, and then left the residence, leaving her in a state of despair. The victim was ultimately able to break out of the second-story window, signaling for help.

“As soon as he locked that lock, I knew it was over,” Wilson later recounted to WDRB. She revealed that “every door was screwed shut,” and added, “The fire department couldn’t even knock down the doors. That’s how badly they were secured. Every window was bolted; there was no exit in the house.”

“I just want to see him go to jail,” she expressed passionately. “I just want justice; I want my daughter to be okay.” Her plea underscores the emotional toll of her experience and her desire for accountability in the face of such heinous crimes.
