A Los Angeles court has issued a ruling regarding the police shooting of author Jillian Lauren Shriner, who is married to Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. According to The Los Angeles Times, the author, known by her pen name Jillian Lauren, will not serve jail time for the incident that occurred in April of this year.
To recap the unusual event, police were pursuing a hit-and-run driver when the chase transitioned to foot in the Shriner’s neighborhood.
One of the suspects attempted to enter Shriner’s property, and when police arrived in pursuit and tried to enter the home, they encountered the author, who allegedly fired her gun at the suspect and then aimed it at the police officers while refusing to lower her weapon upon request.
The author was subsequently shot in the shoulder by police, taken into custody, and charged with “attempted murder.”
What Did the Court Rule in Jillian Lauren Shriner’s Case?
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Susan J. DeWitt presided over the case and granted the author a mental health diversion.
This ruling allows the author to avoid jail time if she adheres to its conditions. As part of this decision, Shriner must not possess any firearms and should refrain from using drugs and alcohol while attending therapy sessions. If she complies with these conditions over a two-year period, the charges against her will be dismissed.
