The acclaimed band War has significantly enhanced the legacy of their 1975 album Why Can’t We Be Friends? in celebration of its 50th anniversary by introducing a collection of seven previously unreleased bonus tracks, rare jam sessions, and unedited mixes. These additions not only enrich the listening experience but also provide fans with a deeper understanding of the album’s creative process and significance in the music scene.
Set to launch on June 6 through Avenue/Rhino, the Why Can’t We Be Friends?: 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition includes a meticulously remastered mix of the original album, expertly crafted by renowned engineer Bernie Grundman. Below, you will find a complete track listing along with an exclusive preview of the previously unheard “Low Rider (Original Unedited Mix)” from this eagerly awaited reissue.
The success of Why Can’t We Be Friends? came approximately two years after the release of 1973’s Deliver the Word, a considerable gap in the music industry at that time, and four years after the group transitioned from the Eric Burdon era with their self-titled album released in 1971. This album not only reached the coveted gold status but also soared into the Top 10 charts, with both the title track and the follow-up single “Low Rider” achieving remarkable commercial success. Additionally, the album topped the R&B charts, solidifying War’s influence in the genre.
