On Friday, February 13, Wiz Khalifa took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the heartbreaking news that his father, Laurence W. Thomaz, had passed away. He also shared photos on his Instagram Stories of him and his father growing up, captioning them, “Love you big guy.” Wiz grew up moving around a lot during his parents’ military years, but he eventually settled in Pittsburgh, pursued his rap dreams, and became the icon the star he is today — always carrying the lessons his dad taught him. He also paid tribute to the man who shaped him both as an artist and a person, saying:
“Today my father decided not to wake up. I will always love him, miss him and be grateful for the things he taught me. He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W. Thomaz.”
