X-Men Actor James Marsden Reveals Missed MCU Character on Set

Actor James Marsden from Cyclops has shared his thoughts on the absence of Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Studios is currently producing Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, known as the Russo Brothers, the film is set to hit theaters in the United States later this year. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is scheduled for release in 2027.

To date, Marvel has unveiled four teaser trailers for Avengers: Doomsday. The first teaser confirmed the return of Chris EvansSteve Rogers to the MCU, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor. The third trailer highlighted several X-Men characters, including Marsden. The fourth and final trailer showcased Letitia Wright‘s Shuri/Black Panther, Ebon Moss-Bachrach‘s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more.

What did James Marsden say about Avengers: Doomsday?

In an interview with ComicBook, Marsden expressed that he missed Jackman on the set of Avengers: Doomsday; however, he hinted at being unable to share everything about the situation.

“I love Hugh Jackman, and I love the dynamic between Wolverine and Cyclops,” Marsden stated. “It was always a brotherly, healthy competition between the two of them, where they were annoyed with each other. It did feel like a brotherly relationship. I wouldn’t say that I was excited to slide into that role without him barking in my ear. He was missed. I’m trying to… answer, without saying too much… Yeah, that’s my answer.”

As of now, Marvel has not confirmed Jackman’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. Numerous rumors suggest he may appear in some capacity, but Jackman has not provided a clear response regarding his return as Wolverine when asked previously. He last reprised the role in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is part of the MCU.
