After CBS’ Yellowstone came to an end with its series finale in December 2024, the network has now released a trailer for a spin-off series called Y: Marshals. Excitement among fans has already reached its peak; however, a small detail led to speculation about Monica Dutton’s fate. Fans are assuming Kayce’s wife, Monica, played by Kelsey Asbille, will be dead in the upcoming series.

What happens to Kelsey Asbille’s Monica Dutton in Y: Marshals trailer?

After releasing a 10-second teaser for the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off Y: Marshals, CBS has now put out the first trailer for the series. This new series will pick up after the events of Yellowstone, where Kayce Dutton sold the Dutton Ranch and moved to East Camp. Even though he moves with his wife, Monica, and son Tate, neither of them appears in the trailer. Therefore, fans speculate that this tiny detail gives away Monica’s fate in the new show.

Earlier, fans noticed that Kelsey Asbille wasn’t on the Y: Marshals cast list as Monica, leading to a bit of confusion as to why. However, after the release of the trailer, fans seem to assume that Monica will be dead in the upcoming show. Additionally, at the start of the trailer, as we hear Kayce speaking, he says, “I’ve lost my teammates, my parents, even my brothers…,” as he walks up a hill to a burial site. This site looks relatively new compared to the Duttons’ family cemetery, which was on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Hence, this could signify that Monica is dead, even though he doesn’t mention her.

The show, which comes out on March 1, 2026, will follow Kayce as the protagonist who joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. The official synopsis for the show reads, “Kayce Dutton combines his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
