Brad Pitt’s massive summer blockbuster is dominating streaming right now, but 12 years ago he headlined a post-apocalyptic thriller that’s having a moment on streaming. In 2013, Pitt starred in the highest-grossing zombie movie ever made, World War Z, which follows a former United Nations employee who travels across the world to stop a zombie apocalypse from wiping out all of humanity. In America and globally, World War Z is streaming on Paramount+, where it has quietly become one of the most popular movies on the platform at the time of writing. The film is also available for free on Pluto TV in the U.S.
When it was reported that World War Z carried a $190 million budget, many felt the film was doomed to fail at the box office. The film proved all its doubters wrong, though, by grossing $540 million at the global box office. Until the release of F1 earlier this year, World War Z was Brad Pitt’s highest-grossing movie ever. The film received a mostly positive reception from critics and audiences, earning scores of 67% and 72%, respectively, on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
Marc Forster directed World War Z with a script from Drew Goddard, Damon Lindelof, Matthew Michael Carnahan, and J. Michael Straczynski. In addition to starring in the film, Brad Pitt also earned a producing credit for his work on World War Z. Director Mark Forster recently teamed up with Tom Hanks for the 2022 drama/comedy A Man Called Otto. After grossing over 100 million at the box office, A Man Called Otto recently flourished on streaming shortly before Thanksgiving.
When Does Brad Pitt’s Next Movie Come Out?
While it’s unclear exactly what Brad Pitt’s next movie will be, he does have a few exciting projects in the works that are expected to be released sometime next year. Pitt will team up with Director David Ayer and co-star J.K. Simmons for Heart of the Beast, an action-adventure thriller that has already wrapped production. He’ll also be seen reprising his role as Cliff Booth in a sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Pitt will even headline Edward Berger’s next film, The Riders, which is expected to begin production any day now.
Be sure to check out World War Z on Paramount+ or Pluto TV in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
