49ers Coach Kyle Shanahan Injured in Car Accident Before Camp

Coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers is recovering after a serious accident.

The NFL team has reported that their head coach sustained injuries in a car accident during the league’s summer break and will engage in training camp with limited participation as he heals.

“San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the 49ers stated on their social media on July 25. “Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers. Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care.”

On July 14, Shanahan—who has served as the head coach of the 49ers since 2017—collided with an SUV near his residence in northern California, resulting in a concussion, a broken nose, multiple fractured ribs, and an injured hand, according to various reports citing sources close to the matter. The 46-year-old also reportedly needed 40 stitches on his face.
