50 Cent has humorously criticized Ice Cube‘s recently released remake of War of the Worlds, which has garnered overwhelmingly negative reviews from both critics and audiences alike.
In this new adaptation of the iconic science fiction tale, Cube takes on the role of a top cyber-security analyst for Homeland Security. The film, which is available on Amazon Prime Video, has been met with harsh feedback, currently holding a dismal 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This indicates that not a single professional critic has deemed it worthy of a positive review.
Despite not having viewed the film himself, 50 Cent joined the chorus of critics. He took to Instagram to express his disbelief, writing: “0 % how you get a 0 percent rating. Nah, somebody mad at Cube. Now I’m scared to watch it LOL.”
The classic narrative, originally drawn from H.G. Wells’ 1898 novel, features Ice Cube as a top cyber-security expert who is responsible for monitoring potential threats to national security through a wide-ranging surveillance program. As the story unfolds, an attack by an unidentified entity compels him to question whether the government is concealing vital information from him and the broader public.
A unique twist in this adaptation is that the majority of the film unfolds on computer and phone screens, with the trailer showcasing scenes primarily from the desk where Ice Cube is seated, creating a modern-day perspective on the classic tale.
Joining him in this project are notable actors such as Eva Longoria, famed for her role in Desperate Housewives, and Clark Gregg, recognized for his work in The Avengers.
Producer Patrick Aiello shared his insights, stating: “The idea was organic. When catastrophes happen today, we experience them through our devices. That insight shaped the storytelling and tech used to create this immersive thriller.”
He further elaborated: “For the first time ever, a studio-scale science fiction epic has been produced using a format that places audiences inside the action through the lenses of phones, computers, and tablets. It’s a visceral, first-person experience designed for big screens in a language and format that is now natural within our daily lives.”
Recently, Cube announced an exciting new venture, revealing that he has secured a deal with Warner Bros. for a new sequel to the beloved film Friday.
New Line’s COO Richard Brenner confirmed this news in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, stating: “We are making another Friday. We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. It’s going to be called Last Friday.”
