6 New Fantasy Shows Perfect for a Complete Viewing Experience

Since the early 2010s, fantasy television has been gaining popularity and has become a rising trend in the world of media. Networks are now more willing to invest larger portions of their budgets into large-scale fantasy productions, which is why there are so many of them today. Admittedly, it can be challenging to keep up with this new wave of television, especially given the frequent release of new TV series.

Every so often, a fantasy series emerges that truly captivates audiences, but only a select few each year receive this opportunity. In the last year or two, there have been some real gems that deserve more attention. The following lists the best fantasy TV shows from 2025 and 2026 that are absolutely remarkable, even if they only have one or two seasons so far.

Widow’s Bay is a blend of several different genres. It’s primarily a horror/comedy at its core, but it can also be considered a supernatural drama. Additionally, it qualifies as a fantasy series due to its inclusion of mythical creatures from folklore and legend. Premiering just this April, the series is set in the fictional town of Widow’s Bay, New England, which is cursed with a terrible affliction. This curse brings nightmares to life, awakening the dead and unleashing horrific monsters from local legends. Compounding the issue, the town’s mayor dismisses the curse as nonsense, much to the dismay of the townsfolk.

This series is incredibly entertaining because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. While there are some high stakes involved, the contrast between a skeptical mayor and undeniable supernatural occurrences often leads to humorous moments. It’s a quirky and eccentric story that feels truly unique in the television landscape, which is why many viewers have praised it highly. Even though it’s not the most fantastical series on this list, it’s an absolute delight and a potential masterpiece.

The Mighty Nein is an animated Amazon Prime Video series based on a custom campaign in the popular tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons. More specifically, the show is based on a campaign played during the second season of the Critical Role podcast and was released following the success of Critical Role‘s other animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina. Both Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein take place in the same immersive and lore-rich world, albeit on two completely different continents.

Like Vox Machina, the cast of Critical Role actually voice their in-game characters, making it familiar and nostalgic for fans of the original podcast. This also lends authenticity to the characters since the creators have invested so much into them. The story of The Mighty Nein follows a group of misfit criminals who hold the fate of the world when an arcane artifact is rediscovered. What ensues is filled with humor, action, and genuinely moving drama. Like Vox Machina, this show is absolutely stellar and has received rave reviews across the board.

Outlander has been a popular fantasy series running since 2014. Based on novels by Diana Gabaldon, it primarily follows a British nurse during World War II named Claire (Caitríona Balfe) who is magically transported through time to various significant eras. She falls in love with a Scottish Highland warrior in 1743, who is one of the key characters throughout the series. The show not only features major historical events but also heartwarming romance.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood serves as a prequel series focusing on Claire’s love interest Jamie’s parents (Sam Heughan) in 18th-century Scotland. The series also shifts to World War I, following Claire’s parents. Thus, there’s still plenty of romance to explore in this one, even if time travel isn’t as prevalent. Still, for having only two seasons so far, Blood of My Blood has received A-plus reviews from critics and audiences alike, with some fans even claiming it surpasses the original show.

Devil May Cry is an animated series based on the video game series of the same name. Historically, video game adaptations have been viewed as cheap cash grabs lacking substance and quality. However, many recent adaptations have begun to break that stereotype. Make no mistake, Devil May Cry is certainly one of those exceptions. Regardless of its origins as a video game, this show excels with its gritty visuals, gruesome violence, and terrifying monsters that captivated fans of the original games.

The story follows Dante (Johnny Yong Bosch), a red-clad demon hunter who is half-human and half-demon himself. He is called into action when a new demonic entity threatens to open Hell’s gates and unleash its horde upon humanity—prompting Dante to earn his paycheck. Although this show is being discontinued after its third season,, what has been released thus far is top-tier television, providing an exceptional experience for fans of both fantasy and video games alike. It resonates particularly well with those who enjoyed low fantasy shows involving demons during the early 2000s.
