Recently, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn praised her potential, stating that she would make a “fantastic Wonder Woman.” This endorsement has fueled speculation and hope among fans eager to see a fresh face in this pivotal role.
During a conversation with Extra, Gunn was questioned about the implications of his social media activity, specifically regarding his follows of popular actresses, including Arjona, and how that might indicate her chances of being cast as the next Wonder Woman. In a lighthearted manner, Gunn responded, saying there’s a “50%” chance, humorously suggesting that fans might be reading too much into his social media interactions.
Gunn elaborated, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but immediately, people jumped to conclusions, thinking, ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,’” he remarked. “She would indeed be an excellent Wonder Woman, by the way.” His enthusiasm for Arjona’s talent is evident, and he shared that their connection goes back many years.
Gunn continued by highlighting their longstanding friendship, saying, “She appeared in a film I directed seven years ago, and we’ve been friends ever since. I didn’t just follow her recently; I followed her back then.” For clarity, he was referring to their collaboration on The Belko Experiment, a film that has established a foundation for their professional relationship.
While it may take some time before we see the new iteration of Wonder Woman on screen, Gunn confirmed their commitment to the project earlier this month, stating, “We’re actively working on Wonder Woman.” He shared that “the script for Wonder Woman is currently being developed.” Additionally, he provided updates on the previously announced Paradise Lost series for HBO Max, describing its progress as “slow-moving, but still progressing.”

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film features David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) portraying Lois Lane.
