Apple TV’s Fantasy Blockbuster Reaches Significant Milestone

Subscribers to Apple TV seem to be enjoying the critically acclaimed horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay, which comes on the heels of similarly beloved series that the streamer has released over the years. Apple has cemented itself as a hub for long-form genre storytelling, while avoiding the temptations of the streaming industry. For instance, it continues to rely entirely on a library of originals instead of licensed material. Nor does it produce as many films and shows as its rivals. What this means is that its programming is given room to breathe and find an audience. This is exactly what happened with a movie that debuted on the service earlier this year after a surprisingly successful box-office run.

We’re not talking about F1, which has been perched at the top of the Apple viewership charts after grossing more than $600 million worldwide at the box office last year. The movie in question was released theatrically a few months after F1, in collaboration with A24. It featured Elizabeth Olsen in the lead role, along with Miles Teller and Callum Turner. The fantasy comedy ended up grossing more at the box office than the very similar Good Fortune, starring Seth Rogen, Keanu Reeves, and Aziz Ansari.
