Kayla Hayes, Mother of Karmelo Anthony, Shares Heartfelt Testimony

Once Kayla Hayes took to the podium, she candidly shared her family’s tumultuous journey during this distressing time. She spoke about the emotional and psychological toll the incident has taken on her loved ones.

“…In the wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack. Whatever you think happened between Karmelo and the Metcalf boys, my three younger children, my husband, and I didn’t deserve to face threats, harassment, and falsehoods,” she stated. “The barrage of lies and false accusations directed at us, especially over the past week, has been absolutely overwhelming.”

Hayes elaborated on the severe repercussions her family has faced, including the public disclosure of their home address. This situation has led to her husband taking a leave of absence due to concerns for their safety and well-being.

“His mental health is deteriorating day by day. We have endured alarming death threats. My 13-year-old daughter is terrified to sleep in her own bedroom because of the fear that looms over us,” Hayes continued. “I struggle to comprehend why we are being targeted and discriminated against prior to a fair trial. Our son deserves the same rights and protections afforded to everyone. He was raised in a loving, two-parent household, filled with structure, stability, and faith. We hold the Constitution and the laws of our state in high regard, but those laws must apply to all individuals equally, not selectively.”

Before concluding her emotional address, Hayes mentioned that the investigation into the incident on April 2 is ongoing. She emphasized that her family firmly believes in the judicial process, stating that “the truth will ultimately emerge through the legal system.”

“To the family who suffered this tremendous loss, my heart goes out to you,” she expressed. “To those who have supported my family, thank you from the depths of our hearts. We kindly ask for your ongoing support, patience, and prayers as we navigate this incredibly challenging journey. Thank you.”

During her speech, Hayes strongly denied rumors circulating online that suggested her family intended to utilize donations collected for her son to purchase a new home. She sought to clarify the situation regarding the financial support received.

“We have not received a single dollar from the GiveSendGo fundraiser. The co-founder has clearly stated this fact. In reality, we were just informed yesterday that we can start withdrawing funds, and it will still take seven days to receive those funds after the request,” she explained.
