They highlighted that a fraudulent social media account was impersonating Chief David Shilson and disseminating misleading information about the ongoing investigation.

“Frisco PD is aware of a fake account on social media purporting to belong to Chief David Shilson. The post is NOT from an official source and may contain information that is false or misleading. Rely only on FPD’s verified social media accounts. Criminal charges will be pursued,” the tweet stated.

On April 4, Chief David Shilson himself took to Twitter to warn the public about the dangers of misinformation.

“…Beware of those taking to social media to deliberately spread misinformation, hate, fear and division,” the message emphasized, highlighting, “A fictitious account was created using my name to perpetuate misinformation. This is a criminal offense and a third-degree felony which will be investigated.”
