Battle Angel 2 Update from James Cameron Sparks Excitement

Alita: Battle Angel 2 has received an encouraging update from James Cameron. The Avatar filmmaker revealed his plans to make an Alita sequel with Robert Rodriguez.

What is the status of Alita: Battle Angel 2?

During an interview with Empire Magazine, Cameron addressed the status of the Alita franchise. Not only does Cameron want to make a second movie with Rodriguez, but he also has plans to begin working on it soon.

“I appreciate the loyalty of the Alita fans,” Cameron said. “Robert Rodriguez and I have sworn a blood oath to do at least one more Alita movie. In fact, we’re thinking of an architecture that bridges to a third film, but we’ll be satisfied if we can make one more. And we’re making progress on that.”

Cameron is currently finishing post-production on Avatar: Fire and Ash. Once Cameron completes that, he can start thinking about Alita: Battle Angel 2.

“Now that I have a home in Austin, Texas, about three miles from [Robert’s] place, I think we’ll probably get more serious about that as soon as I wrap the mix here in a few weeks,” Cameron added.

Alita: Battle Angel is based on the popular Japanese cyberpunk manga series. The 2019 film adaptation starred Rosa Salazar as Alita, a cyborg with amnesia who is resurrected in a futuristic society. With no recollection of her previous life, Alita embarks on a quest for answers that will force her to embrace her destiny.

Besides Salazar, Alita: Battle Angel starred Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson.

Alita: Battle Angel is streaming on Disney+.
