Sometimes, as a parent, you just can’t win, a lesson Affleck—who shares children Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 14, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner—recently learned after recounting what he thought was an amusing story about his middle child teasing him regarding his past relationships.
“Actually, today, they joked with me about, like, ‘Why’d you say that was me?’” the Animals star shared with E! News’ Will Marfuggi at the film’s premiere on Oct. 1. “I was like, ‘No, I didn’t say that.’”
To which Affleck’s child replied, “‘You said how old I was. How many kids do you have that age?’ They were kind of right about that.”
The 54-year-old stressed, however, that the story—during which Affleck’s 17-year-old quipped to him, “Oh, like you’re the expert on relationships?” when he offered romantic advice—was genuinely a compliment.
“I was like, ‘Well, it was funny, though. My point was, you’re funny, actually,’” he explained. “It’s that thing where they tease you, but also it’s funny, so you’re kind of proud. Like, yeah, they put me down, but they’re smart.”
