Best Songs from Every Poison Album

What is the best song from each Poison album?

It’s understandable if you don’t have an immediate answer to that question. Most glam metal fans likely have a strong opinion about Poison’s first three albums — Look What the Cat Dragged In, Open Up and Say … Ahh!, and Flesh & Blood — which all achieved multi-platinum status and produced several Top 10 hits.

However, beyond those, the answers may become less clear.

Why Did Poison’s Sound Change Significantly in the ’90s?

Poison’s golden era abruptly ended with the firing of guitarist C.C. DeVille following a disastrous performance and backstage altercation between DeVille and frontman Bret Michaels at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards.

The band continued with talented newcomer Richie Kotzen and released the rootsy, hard-rocking Native Tongue in 1993. The album performed respectably and received a gold certification, but its sales were still significantly lower than their first three albums, as the grunge and alt-rock movements made Poison’s party-metal sound seem outdated.

Throughout the late ’90s, Poison faced challenges, replacing Kotzen with Blues Saraceno after Kotzen was discovered to be involved with drummer Rikki Rockett’s then-fiancée. Saraceno contributed to 2000’s Crack a Smile … and More!, but by its release, the band had reunited with DeVille. The classic-era lineup recorded 2002’s underperforming Hollyweird and the 2007 covers album Poison’d!, which included a mix of classic and newly recorded covers.

This results in a discography that varies in sound and quality. Nevertheless, even at their lowest points, every Poison album features at least one song worth listening to.
