Bon Jovi Excludes Major Hit During Sixth MSG Concert

Fans of Bon Jovi who attended the band’s concert on Sunday (July 19) at Madison Square Garden in New York were surprised when several popular songs were missing from the set list, including one of their biggest hits.

This concert was the sixth of nine performances Bon Jovi is giving at the World’s Most Famous Arena this month. The residency, which started on July 7, marks the band’s first public concerts since 2022 and follows frontman Jon Bon Jovi’s vocal cord surgery.

The first five shows at Madison Square Garden lasted between two hours and 15 minutes to two hours and 30 minutes, featuring 21 to 23 songs. In contrast, the July 19 show lasted only two hours and five minutes and included 20 songs.

Which Songs Did Bon Jovi Omit During Their Sixth Show at Madison Square Garden?

The most notable omission from the set list was the hit song “Wanted Dead or Alive” from Slippery When Wet. According to setlist.fm, it is the third-most-played song in the band’s history with 1,571 documented live performances, trailing only behind “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name,” which each have 1,582 performances.

Additionally, Bon Jovi did not perform their 1994 power ballad “Always,” which had been the closing song for nights three, four, and five of their residency. They also skipped the single “Red, White and Jersey” from their upcoming album Forever, which was performed on nights two through five.

Other changes in the set list during this New York run included swapping “In These Arms” from Keep the Faith with “Bed of Roses,” as well as adding “Let It Rain” from their 2020 album.

What Was the Reason for Bon Jovi’s Set List Changes at Their Latest MSG Show?

Due to Jon Bon Jovi’s known vocal challenges over the past four years, fans have speculated whether he experienced vocal fatigue during the July 19 concert. As of Monday morning, the band has not commented on the omissions from the set list.

The Madison Square Garden residency will continue on Tuesday and conclude on July 26. After a month-long break, they will head to the United Kingdom for several shows in August and September.
