The world of Bosch is officially expanding once again. A year after first teasing its development, MGM+ has released an exciting set of first-look images for Bosch: Start of Watch, the highly anticipated prequel series exploring the origin story of Michael Connelly’s legendary Los Angeles detective.
Set to premiere on Sunday, January 10, 2027, with a two-episode debut, the eight-episode season will roll out weekly through its finale on Sunday, February 21, 2027. Audiences across the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Latin America can tune in on MGM+.
Back to the Beginning in ’92
Taking viewers back to 1992, Bosch: Start of Watch drops us into a volatile Los Angeles on the edge of explosion, fraught with intense racial tension, escalating gang violence, and a deeply fractured LAPD. At the heart of the story is a 26-year-old Harry Bosch, played by Cameron Monaghan (Shameless, Gotham), embarking on his earliest days as a rookie officer. Assigned as his veteran partner and mentor, Eli Bridges is Omari Hardwick (Star Trek: Section 31, Army of the Dead).
A High-Stakes Heist and the Birth of a Code
Navigating routine patrol calls amid a city in turmoil, Bosch quickly finds himself drawn into a complex, high-profile heist and an intricate web of police corruption. The case forces him to navigate compromise and danger, testing his commitment to the badge and forging the relentless detective defined by a singular, unyielding ethos: “Everybody counts, or nobody counts.”
Who’s Joining the Beat?
The series builds upon Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, the same literary universe that launched Prime Video’s hit franchise, to deliver a grounded, atmospheric look at Bosch’s formative years. Joining Monaghan and Hardwick as series regulars are Ariana Guerra as Rosa and JD Pardo as Cory. Rounding out the impressive ensemble cast are Kathleen Wilhoite, William Fichtner, Rafi Gavron, Raphael Sbarge, Azita Ghanizada, Kenneth Miller, Seamus Dever, Ryan McPartlin, Marco Rodriguez, and Shelli Boone.
With its tense period setting, strong lead cast, and deep dive into Bosch‘s moral genesis, Start of Watch promises to be an essential new chapter for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
