Legendary musician Carlos Santana has been admitted to the hospital due to what the San Antonio Fire Department has described as “a non life-threatening condition” shortly before his band’s highly anticipated performance on April 22 in San Antonio, Texas. This unfortunate event has raised concerns among fans and the music community alike.
Michael Vrionis, the manager of Santana, provided an official statement regarding the musician’s health on the venue’s website:
It is with deep sadness that I must inform you that tonight’s concert in San Antonio has been postponed. Mr. Santana was preparing for the performance when he encountered a situation that was identified as dehydration. In the interest of Mr. Santana’s health and safety, postponing the show was deemed the most sensible decision. He is recovering well and is eager to return to San Antonio as well as continue his US Tour. We greatly appreciate your understanding during this time. A new date for the show will be announced shortly.
According to TMZ, the San Antonio Fire Department’s statement included the aforementioned quote and also featured video footage showing Santana being transported from the venue in an ambulance, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Previously, on July 5, 2022, a Santana concert in Detroit faced an abrupt ending when the now 77-year-old guitarist experienced heat exhaustion and dehydration during the performance, leading to an immediate halt. After rescheduling several shows, Santana made a triumphant return to the stage.
