CBS Edits Out Tony Dokoupil’s ‘Big Problems’ Mistake in Debut

Why CBS Edited Out Tony Dokoupil's 'Big Problems' Flub During 'Evening News' Debut

New CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil experienced a significant mishap on air last night, and there’s an update regarding the incident.

During his live debut on Monday (January 5), the 45-year-old news anchor encountered a teleprompter issue when an image on screen displayed a photo of Senator Mark Kelly, while the teleprompter showed text related to Gov. Tim Walz.

Tony stumbled over some words, stating, “To other news now, to Governor Walz. No, we’re going to do Mark Kelly. First day! First day, big problems here,” as he attempted to recover.

Then, there was further awkwardness. He remarked, “Uh, are we going to Kelly here? Or are we going to go to [journalist] Jonah Kaplan?…we’re doing Mark Kelly, possibly demoted from his retired rank of captain in the Navy.”

Following this incident, the segment did not air during the west coast broadcast and has since vanished from feeds if you try to watch it.

Now, there’s an explanation for this.
