McAndrew stated that Formella even suggested that her husband was having an affair with her best friend and intended to leave her, which she claimed would result in her receiving millions of dollars, showcasing a deeply troubling mindset.

In a shocking turn of events, she reportedly texted the teenager while on vacation with her husband in Italy, further blurring the lines of her personal and professional life, and raising questions about her judgment and priorities.

“She knew what she was doing was wrong,” McAndrew argued to the judge, asserting that Formella exhibited manipulative and controlling behavior throughout the alleged relationship. Some of the initial text messages uncovered allegedly between Formella and the teenager revealed a much more emotionally charged relationship. One particular text message purportedly from her sparked the investigation after the teenager’s mother discovered it and other messages on her son’s phone, indicating the extent of their inappropriate interactions.

In addition to the alleged texts exchanged between Formella and the teenager, investigators also discovered more “Notes” messages that were written as if they were texts intended for the student, or simply composed in that format, illustrating the blurred lines in her communication.

Among these messages were claims that he was “ruining” her marriage and using her, as well as statements asserting that they were in a relationship and had broken up multiple times, indicating a tumultuous dynamic that raises serious ethical concerns.

“I went back and screen shotted every single time that I said we should break up until after the wedding and after you graduated,” Formella allegedly wrote. “And every single f–king time you came back and convinced me it would be fine.” This statement reveals the extent of emotional turmoil involved in their interactions.

“I initiated every single breakup. Only for you to end things saying you couldn’t get over it,” the court filings continued, highlighting the psychological manipulation and emotional strife that characterized their relationship. This manipulation raises serious concerns about the power dynamics at play.

“YOU ruined us,” she added, according to the document. “I warned you we should never have started dating a long, long time ago, and you gaslighted me and convinced me it would be fine.” This statement underscores the complexity of the emotional fallout from their interactions.

She also accused the teenager of “cheating” on her, specifically calling out his subsequent girlfriend, as noted in the report. “All I was to you was somebody to f–k,” the alleged messages read. “I am not upset, I am not mad, I am not any of that, I’ve just lost interest.” This statement reflects the emotional complexity and turmoil stemming from the relationship.

“I warned you we should have never started dating a long f–king time ago, and you gaslighted me and convinced me it was fine every single time because that’s who you are,” she allegedly wrote. This accusation highlights the ongoing psychological conflict present in their communications.

“You, once again, waited and strung me along until it was convenient for you,” the message read. “It broke me last time. This time, it changed me. I am not sad. I am f–king mad that I let a 16-year-old f–k with me like that, and I made a promise to myself that I will never let any man f–k with me like that again. Ever. … In the end, we both lost.” This reflection reveals the deep emotional scars left by the relationship.

“You lost the girl who would have stuck with you through thick and thin, who would have changed anything about herself to make you happy, and I lost the person I was before I met you,” she added, according to the document. This statement encapsulates the emotional toll of their relationship.

The investigation into Formella began on Saturday, March 15, after the victim and his mother approached the Downers Grove Police Department to report an instance of “inappropriate sexual contact.” The mother allegedly discovered a text message thread on her son’s phone between him and the teacher, which ultimately led to the unfolding of these serious allegations.

The teenager also reportedly stated that their texting relationship began “a year and a half ago,” adding that they even FaceTimed. According to TMZ, citing court documents, she began tutoring him after he suffered a collarbone injury, during which Formella provided her phone number so they could play a game called “8-Ball Pool” on their devices, raising suspicions about their interactions.

The findings of the investigation, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, allege that the two were in a classroom together in December 2023 for a tutoring session when “Formella sexually assaulted the boy.” This allegation underscores the severity of the accusations and the potential breach of trust inherent in her role as an educator.
