“I was like, ‘What am I going to wear?'” Katy Perry shared with Elle as she prepared for her highly anticipated Blue Origin flight alongside fellow adventurers King, Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. “But seriously, I have been dreaming of going to space for nearly two decades. I explored every one of the possible commercial space travel options available. From the moment Blue Origin announced their plans for commercial travel, I was like, ‘Count me in! I’m first in line.’”
In a 2010 report by MTV News, it was disclosed that Perry had secured a ticket costing $200,000 to experience a suborbital flight with Virgin Galactic, eagerly awaiting the company’s successful launch.
“I’m incredibly fascinated by extraterrestrial phenomena,” the “E.T.” singer expressed to the outlet during that period. “It’s nearly impossible for me to gaze into the night sky and not ponder that our planet is merely one among a billion others. It’s astonishingly small. My ex-husband, Russell Brand, and I have always shared an interest in everything related to extraterrestrial life. I mean, we’re actually going to space.” (Perry and Russell Brand officially ended their marriage in 2011.)
As her 2025 Blue Origin journey drew closer, the 40-year-old artist conveyed to Elle, “I don’t have any time to feel nervous; I’ve got no time to worry. I’m sure I will experience something profound when the countdown begins with ‘10, 9, 8, 7,…’ but until that moment arrives, we have tasks to complete. We’ve got business to address.”
Most amusingly, Perry remarked, “Space is finally going to be glamorous. Let me tell you something; if I could bring some glam along with me, I absolutely would. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
