The highly anticipated return of Daredevil to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has generated immense excitement among fans. Charlie Cox’s iconic portrayal of Matt Murdock was met with tremendous applause in Spiderman: No Way Home and later in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Meanwhile, Vincent D’Onofrio’s compelling performance as Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, continued its gripping narrative through appearances in Hawkeye and <em>Echo</em>. Now, Marvel enthusiasts can rejoice as the action-packed flagship series has returned to its new home on Disney+, finally unfolding the story of Daredevil: Born Again.
Set several years after the events of the original Daredevil series, Cox’s Matt Murdock and his colleagues have established a comfortable work-life balance. Murdock has not donned the Daredevil persona for over a year, having pushed his limits beyond what he thought possible. Meanwhile, D’Onofrio’s Fisk finds himself in the public eye, campaigning for the position of Mayor of New York City. As both characters strive for a fresh start, they inevitably find themselves drawn back into their complicated history with crime. The series features a stellar cast, including Margarita Levieva from The Acolyte, Deborah Ann Woll reprising her electrifying role as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal returning as the formidable Punisher, Frank Castle.
Collider’s own Steve Weintraub had the privilege of interviewing Cox and D’Onofrio, delving deep into the complexities surrounding Daredevil’s comeback. During their conversation, they explored the challenges both Murdock and Fisk face as they strive to balance their public personas with their darker alter egos. They expressed their excitement for Season 2 (or is it Season 8?), and discussed the shocking death that occurs early in the season, setting the stage for dramatic developments.
Matt Murdock Faces Life-Altering Changes After ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
The Death of Foggy Nelson Serves as a Crucial Catalyst for Future Events
COLLIDER: Charlie, as the show evolves, you are making your return, and significant changes are being made. How did you feel when you received Episode 1, and in the first 15 minutes, it was revealed that “We’re going to kill off one of the trio, and I’ll be filming an intense and elaborate fight sequence?”
CHARLIE COX: The emotional and physical demands of the fight sequence were manageable for me. When I read it, I was incredibly excited because it’s such a thrilling scene. I have complete faith that Phil Silvera will execute it flawlessly. After a six-year hiatus, we want to create a powerful comeback that ignites excitement among fans.
The more challenging aspect for me was processing the fate of my dear friend Foggy. I find it hard to believe that both Matt and I will cope with that loss. Foggy Nelson is a vital part of the MCU’s heartbeat. It’s difficult to envision Matt Murdock or Daredevil without him. Elden [Henson] has brilliantly portrayed that character over the years. I’m heartbroken, truly. We felt the need to create a significant shift to stir things up and place fans in a state of discomfort, serving as a catalyst for everything to come. Matt Murdock will be irrevocably changed. The show will undergo profound changes as well, and this is a monumental decision. While there are positives, a lot will be lost.
I was absolutely stunned by the turn of events.
Wilson Fisk Grapples with His New Responsibilities as Mayor
“He’s the Mayor, but He’s Never Not Kingpin”
Vincent, with Kingpin’s transition to Mayor, viewers are curious whether he aims to genuinely help the city or simply enhance his own power. What can you share about Kingpin’s evolving storyline?
VINCENT D’ONOFRIO: While he is the Mayor, he is never just Kingpin, and that complexity adds layers to his character. I often liken him to a vampire attempting to survive in the daylight, a situation that is fundamentally unsustainable. This struggle to maintain his dual identity will undoubtedly take a toll on him.
One of the central dynamics of Kingpin, Wilson, is his relationship with Vanessa. How does she influence him?
D’ONOFRIO: Their love for each other is an intense bond. In any relationship, trust is paramount, and he trusts Vanessa more than anyone else. Her words hold immense weight for him, and he is deeply influenced by her perspective.

The series finally debuts on March 4.
Charlie, what I find fascinating about Episode 2 is how, after a year of living as an ordinary person, the threat of violence brings out his darker side. Will this signify the return of Daredevil, or is he attempting to reconcile both aspects of his identity?
COX: That battle is never-ending. I don’t believe there is a definitive equilibrium for him to achieve. What’s becoming evident to Matt is the awareness of this duality. If he attempts to deny one side of himself, he might seem successful on the surface, but fundamentally, he cannot change his true nature, which consists of two distinct identities. The events at the end of [Episode] 2 represent a blend; he isn’t actively seeking trouble but is responding to a life-threatening situation. The challenge is that when Matt Murdock fights for his survival, it often resembles Daredevil’s instincts, and this may just be the trigger that leads him back to the darker self that Fisk astutely identifies.
“Something Quite Amazing” Awaits in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2
Cox Describes It as Some of His “Favorite Material” from the Franchise
I understand that filming for the second part is starting soon… I’m not sure if it’s “Season 2” or “Part 2.”
COX: Let’s call it Season 8. [Laughs]
D’ONOFRIO: Definitely Season 2.
With the premiere approaching this Friday, I’m curious about how many scripts you’ve reviewed and what excites you about this new chapter of the series?
COX: I’ve read six of the eight scripts, and honestly—though I typically tread carefully with my enthusiasm—this is some of my favorite content from Daredevil that I’ve ever encountered. We have Dario Scardapane, who joined the team to steer the show in a new direction at the beginning of 2024, writing the pilot and the final two episodes of this upcoming season. The depth and novelty he has infused into the new season are incredibly compelling and refreshingly sinister, and I am genuinely excited about it.
