Maren Morris candidly discusses her current relationship dynamics with her former husband, Ryan Hurd.
The talented 35-year-old singer, known for her hit song “The Middle,” ended her marriage to Ryan, who is 38, in 2023 after a five-year journey together. Their divorce was officially finalized in January 2024, and they have amicably agreed to share custody of their precious 5-year-old son, Hayes.
In a revealing interview, Maren provided insights into her evolving relationship with Ryan and opened up about their co-parenting experience.
Continue reading for more details and insights…“We’re over a year out now … [and] we get along now and have moved past a lot of it,” Maren shared during her appearance on Chelsea Handler‘s podcast, Dear Chelsea. “As neighbors, I feel incredibly grateful that we have prioritized our son above our personal issues, and it truly benefits both of us to maintain a harmonious relationship.”
“I consider myself fortunate that we still have a deep love for one another,” the Grammy-winning artist expressed further. “We hold each other in high regard, yet there’s an undeniable sadness that two individuals who care for each other so profoundly couldn’t make their relationship work in reality. The complexities of our situation will always be present.”
She emphasized, “Ultimately, we both recognized that this path was likely the most beneficial for everyone involved, which I consider a sign of success.”
As the conversation progressed, Maren reiterated that she and Ryan excel as co-parents.
“We’ve both allowed ourselves to release the romantic aspect of our relationship, despite the lingering affection and shared history,” she elaborated. “It’s crucial to understand that the person you marry evolves into someone different by the time of divorce, and that realization is one of the most challenging parts of the journey.”
She noted that it was beneficial that the judge overseeing her and Ryan‘s divorce provided clear guidelines on how to establish their co-parenting schedule.
“While it may seem unusual, it brings me comfort knowing that the legal framework exists,” Maren remarked regarding the Tennessee legal proceedings. “The state has outlined our responsibilities, eliminating questions like, ‘Will you take Easter, or should I?’ It’s documented, which helps us detach from personal emotions, benefiting both parties involved.”
She added, “I won’t say it’s [it is] easy, and while we currently co-parent effectively, it’s essential to give yourself the necessary time to process all the feelings that arise.”
Maren also expressed that following her breakup, she feels empowered and embraces her identity as a woman.
“Living alone brings me immense joy,” Maren stated. “I deeply cherish my personal space, which feels sacred to me. Not sharing a closet or a bathroom counter with someone allows me to spread out my belongings freely. This sense of independence feels profoundly womanly. The liberation of having my own home space [and] is incredibly fulfilling.”
