The design process for the outfits worn during the Blue Origin flight began brainstorming as early as late 2024.
“We were unsure where to begin,” Fernando admitted. “There is no precedent for this; all previous references are primarily focused on men’s spacesuits.”
He further explained that while simplicity, comfort, and fit were essential, they also aimed for something that exuded a sense of adventure and daring, reminiscent of motocross outfits or ski suits that are both flattering and stylish.
The trio ultimately chose bright blue bodycon jumpsuits crafted from flame-resistant stretch neoprene. These innovative suits feature a compression layer, a stylish belt, a dual-zip front, and zippers at the bottoms that allow for an adjustable flared silhouette, catering to personal preferences.
Additionally, each crew member underwent a 3-D body scanning process to ensure the perfect fit, underscoring the commitment to both style and functionality.
“I believe the suits are elegantly designed,” Lauren remarked, adding that “they also bring a touch of spice to the experience of space travel.”
Gayle further commented that the overall look was “professional yet feminine,” blending practicality with style, which is essential for women in such a high-stakes environment.
