David Charvet responds after accidentally killing a dog with his truck
David Charvet reportedly struck a pet dog while driving in Malibu in the early hours of April 16, 2026. Authorities believe the incident may have been accidental, but an investigation is ongoing.
The 53-year-old actor was driving his truck on a dimly lit street when the incident occurred. The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Department told PEOPLE, “It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off-leash and ran into the roadway. [Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them.”
A representative for the actor stated that Charvet would not intentionally harm a dog. “At approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning, while driving through his neighborhood in low-light conditions, he encountered a neighbor walking three dogs off leash in the middle of the street,” the representative said.
“He slowed his vehicle and moved to the side to pass safely. As he did so, one of the dogs moved under the vehicle. He immediately stopped, called 911, and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. He fully cooperated with the investigation and made himself available for any further help,” the representative added.
However, the dog’s owner provided a different account. Vera Errico told TMZ that she was walking her three dogs on leashes around 6 a.m. when the actor drove by in his pickup truck and struck one of them. She claimed that Charvet drove out of the gated community before stopping. The 11-year-old white English Labrador, named Sunday, was later euthanized by a veterinarian.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have reportedly not classified the incident as a hit-and-run, as Charvet contacted law enforcement after the incident.
