Reflecting on the Legacy of ‘Lay It on the Line’ with Dee Snider and Triumph
The classic track “Lay It on the Line” originally appeared on Triumph’s third studio album, Just a Game, in 1979. Although it only reached a modest No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100, it has since become one of the band’s most beloved and well-recognized songs, showcasing their signature sound.
“The first time I heard this song [‘Lay It on the Line‘], I was absolutely blown away,” Snider commented in a statement. “There is truly only one Rik Emmett and Triumph. I feel incredibly honored to contribute to this project!”

In a teaser video for the new rendition of “Lay It on the Line,” Rik Emmett reminisced about the initial reception the song received from his band members, Mike Levine (bassist/keyboardist) and Gil Moore (drummer/vocalist).
“I grew up surrounded by a diverse range of music, from Deep Purple to Crosby, Stills & Nash,” he shared. “I had previously written pop songs for Triumph, but Gil and Mike would dismiss them, saying, ‘No, no, too wimpy.’ However, when I presented ‘Lay It on the Line,’ they both immediately responded with enthusiasm, saying, ‘Yeah, yeah, this is good!'”
“Rik’s songwriting skills improved dramatically,” Levine added in the same video, “and the evidence lies in the enduring popularity of ‘Lay It on the Line,’ which has become one of Triumph’s evergreen anthems.”
