In this week’s Chuck’s Fight Club on the Loudwire Nights radio show, two classic Ozzy Osbourne tracks face off against each other. The Prince of Darkness has certainly avoided any sophomore slump with his remarkable works, Black Sabbath’s Paranoid and his own Diary of a Madman.
In one corner of this matchup is Ozzy’s incredible sophomore album, Diary of a Madman. Released in 1981, this album further established Ozzy as a solo artist with hits like “Flying High Again,” “Over the Mountain,” and “Tonight,” which have become essential to his catalog. Tragically, it was during the tour for this album that guitarist Randy Rhoads lost his life in a plane crash, but Ozzy continued to build his legacy as a solo artist.
The other contender in this battle is Black Sabbath’s Paranoid. This second album from the band, released in 1970, solidified their status as one of heavy music’s leading acts. Iconic tracks such as “Iron Man,” “War Pigs,” and the title track have all achieved classic status. Although the album peaked at No. 12 on the charts, it has since been certified four times platinum.
As with all Chuck’s Fight Club battles, Loudwire Nights host Chuck Armstrong will introduce the matchup during the 8PM hour of Monday’s show. Arguments for both albums will be presented on Tuesday and Wednesday as listeners continue to cast their votes. On Friday, the results will be counted, and the album with the higher ranking will be featured in a Loudwire Nights rock block during the 8PM hour.
