Digital Release of Drop Arrives This Week

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was initially intended to helm Scream 7—a project that unfortunately encountered significant obstacles, prompting him to exit the endeavor. Following his departure, Kevin Williamson took over the reins for Scream 7. However, Landon has swiftly moved on to other thrilling projects in the genre, recently signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and an exhilarating film titled Drop. Produced by Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the creative team behind the Purge franchise, Drop is set to hit theaters on April 11th, followed by a digital release on April 29th, available for streaming on Prime Video at THIS LINK.

Written by the talented duo Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, who have previously collaborated with Blumhouse on notable horror films like Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island, Drop follows the gripping story of a single mother who starts receiving ominous AirDrop messages from a mysterious and threatening source, jeopardizing the safety of her son and babysitter at home. The sinister entity coerces the protagonist, portrayed by Meghann Fahy, into a deadly ultimatum—kill her date or face dire consequences. The film unfolds in real-time over the course of a single night, heightening the tension and suspense.

Starring Meghann Fahy from The Perfect Couple as the troubled mother, the cast also features Violett Beane from The Flash, Brandon Sklenar of 1923, Jeffery Self from The Horror of Dolores Roach, Gabrielle Ryan from Power Book IV: Force, and the rising star Jacob Robinson, who has garnered popularity through his parent-managed TikTok account. Produced by Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse, alongside Michael Bay, Bradley Fuller, and Cameron Fuller from Platinum Dunes, Drop benefits from a strong production team. Cameron Fuller played a crucial role in bringing the script by Jacobs and Roach to the attention of Platinum Dunes. The film is executive produced by Sam Lerner and is distributed by Universal, promising a thrilling cinematic experience.

With extensive experience in the horror genre, Landon has previously collaborated with Blumhouse on acclaimed films such as Freaky, Happy Death Day, and Happy Death Day 2U. He also directed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and contributed to the writing of several installments in the Paranormal Activity series, including Paranormal Activity 2, Paranormal Activity 3, Paranormal Activity 4, and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. Having enjoyed Landon’s previous works, including Freaky and the Happy Death Day films, it’s exciting to see him quickly rebound with a new project after the challenges faced with Scream 7.

Critic Chris Bumbray from JoBlo has already screened Drop, rating it an impressive 8/10. His review, accessible at THIS LINK, praises it as “one of Blumhouse’s best movies in a long time, delivering a tightly-paced, ninety-minute thriller that audiences crave. I had a blast watching it.” Landon describes the film as an intriguing fusion of Hitchcockian suspense and the essence of ’90s thrillers, promising viewers an engaging experience.
