Donny Osmond is recalling a humorous memory with Michael Jackson.
Like Michael, the 67-year-old singer gained fame at a young age as part of a musical group with his siblings.
While Michael easily transitioned to a solo career and achieved success in the music industry, Donny faced challenges breaking away from the image he created as a member of The Osmonds.
Donny recently shared a clip on his Instagram where he revealed the “offensive” career advice that the late “Thriller” singer once gave him.

“The name Donny Osmond was a joke, years ago,” the singer disclosed in the clip. “I mean, if you said you liked Donny Osmond music, you were ousted.”
He mentioned that in 1983, he approached Michael to ask how he managed to shed his family band image and become so successful. According to Donny, Michael was forthcoming with his advice.
“He said, ‘Your name’s poison, Donny. You gotta change your name,’” Donny recounted Michael‘s advice. “It was very offensive. It was hard to hear that. But he was right because in ‘89, radio stations all across the country played my music but didn’t say my name.”
