E! News contacted the producer Sheridan of Dutton Ranch, along with Paramount and 101 Studios.
Harris’ remarks follow shortly after Sheridan discussed Kevin Costner’s seemingly sudden exit from Yellowstone in season five, dispelling long-standing rumors of a conflict between the producer and the star.
“Kevin was only supposed to be in the first three seasons,” Sheridan clarified during an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast last month. “That was in his contract. In my view, that’s when his youngest son takes over, and we have to see whether they lose their ranch or not.”
While the network aimed to retain Costner as the lead of the series, Sheridan—who had previously admitted to being “disappointed” by the Oscar winner’s exit—was quite understanding of The Bodyguard alum’s wish to move forward.
“Kevin reached a point where he said, ‘I’ve got to pursue my own path,’” Sheridan added. “And I felt I needed to pursue my own path as well. But we initially envisioned it together as three seasons before passing the baton, which I believe would have been better for the show.”
As he stated, “We had to stay afloat for a while there, and I think that was quite clear.”
