Eagles Cut Festival Set Short After Medical Incident

The Eagles performed their first non-Sphere show since 2024 at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Saturday night (May 2), but the event did not go as planned.

Why Did the Eagles Cut Their Set Short?

The band left the stage with approximately 20 minutes remaining in their scheduled set, surprising many fans in attendance. According to NOLA.com, the early departure was due to a health issue involving a band member.

Notably, “Desperado,” the classic from 1973, was unexpectedly omitted from the New Orleans performance – marking the first time in decades that the Eagles have not included it in a show. The medical situation was also a factor in this decision.

“In the latter half of the show, the band’s piano player reportedly suffered some sort of medical episode and couldn’t continue to perform,” the news site reported. “Without him, the band had to skip the piano-heavy ‘Desperado.’”

Earlier in the Eagles New Orleans Concert

“This is very different from the Sphere,” frontman Don Henley acknowledged early in their set. “We got some sunshine up in here.”

The atmosphere was certainly distinct for a band that has been performing at the state-of-the-art Las Vegas venue, and their setlist diverged from what they have been playing at the Sphere.

The group opened with “Seven Bridges Road,” which was a significant change from their Vegas show, where “Hotel California” served as the opening number. That iconic song appeared later in the New Orleans set, beginning the final trio of songs that concluded their performance.

As is customary, the Eagles incorporated several hits from their members’ solo careers, including Joe Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good” and Henley’s “Boys of Summer.” Other highlights during their Big Easy concert included “Take It Easy,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” “Witchy Woman” and “Heartache Tonight.”

The band’s next concert is scheduled for May 5 in Atlanta.
