Sammy Hagar first revealed the intriguing origins of “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight” during an interview with UCR in August 2022. He shared, “About two months ago, I had this dream where Eddie came to me,” explaining how Eddie was encouraging him to create music together. “He’s going, ‘Man, let’s write some music!’ and I responded, ‘Yeah, let’s do it!'”
In a recent interview, Hagar elaborated to UCR: “Most people don’t want to hear about your dreams, so I hesitated to mention it. I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll just write this song and keep it to myself.’ But I couldn’t ignore this experience. It was simply too extraordinary. We were literally collaborating on a song, just like we used to do, just like Eddie would.”

To realize this ambitious vision, Hagar knew he needed an exceptional guitarist. “Joe was the ideal collaborator who helped me shape the sound — he infused it with that grandiose, emotionally charged, guitar-driven energy reminiscent of Eddie’s spirit, yet it remains distinctly Joe’s creation,” he explained. “With Michael Anthony’s thunderous bass lines and exceptional Van Halen-esque background vocals, coupled with Kenny Aronoff’s relentless driving rhythms, the song truly came together on every level.”
