Foo Fighters Perform ‘Baker Street’ in Kimmel Residency Finale

Foo Fighters Week on Jimmy Kimmel Live came to a close in the small hours of Friday morning, featuring another classic performance.

The selected song was a cover of Gerry Rafferty’s iconic “Baker Street,” a choice that was anticipated. Foos frontman Dave Grohl hinted at this during his earlier interview with Kimmel.

For Grohl, “Baker Street” is a cherished guilty pleasure. “I don’t know if anyone remembers Gerry Rafferty. ‘Right Down The Line,’ ‘Baker Street’. He was in Stealers Wheel, ‘Stuck In The Middle With You.’ ‘Baker Street’ is one of my favorite songs of all time,” he shared. “It reminds me of being young in the ‘70s. And driving around with my mom in the front seat, with AM radio on. It is truly one of my favorite songs of all time. We’ll rock that.”

The Foos delivered another electrifying performance. As they did for the previous four nights, they cranked up the guitars, with Grohl engaging in some gentle headbanging, while Ilan Rubin channeled Animal from behind the kit. Instead of adding a saxophone player, lead guitarist Chris Shiflett took on that iconic riff.

Gerry Rafferty, the Scottish-born singer and songwriter, achieved global success with “Baker Street,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978, marking one of his six solo appearances on the chart. He passed away from liver failure in 2011 after battling alcoholism for many years.

The Foos performed “Baker Street” as their only cover on Fallon this week, following performances of “Window” from their latest studio album, Your Favorite Toy; the 1995 hit “This Is A Call” from their self-titled debut; and “Your Favorite Toy.”

This year, the Foos’ world tour has taken them across North America and Europe, with their next stop in Australia.
