Janelle Monáe’s Bold Freestyle Rap Targeting Nelly
In a video that initially surfaced on TMZ, the talented ‘Make Me Feel’ artist unleashed her creativity over the classic ‘Hot in Herre’ instrumental. At one point, she passionately exclaimed, “Fk Nelly,” and her comments were deeply rooted in her stance against President Donald Trump. Back in January, Nelly faced significant backlash on social media after he performed at one of Trump’s inaugural events. The video, which lasts about a minute, captures Anderson, a live band, and Janelle as they rock out on stage, with her candidly expressing her feelings. While .Paak didn’t join in on her impromptu diss, he did react with laughter, exclaiming “Oh sh*t!”
“I used to like Nelly and then he went to perform for Donald Trump. Fk that n*a, I don’t give a fk. I’m with my family. Ain’t nobody gon’ hate on us, and imma look back like I don’t give a fk,” Janelle Monáe rapped.
She continued her freestyle by listing the various people and issues she is passionate about, highlighting how they often conflict with the political stance of the president, particularly focusing on the rights of women and the Hispanic community. Through her powerful words, Janelle emphasized her commitment to these causes.
“You sold out, I used to think you was cool. But now, you look like a motherfking fool,” Janelle expressed in her raw critique of Nelly’s actions. She went on to point out that Trump doesn’t genuinely care about the people he claims to represent. Addressing any assumptions about her state during the performance, Janelle confidently stated, “I might be a little tipsy, but I know everything I’m motherfking saying…Fk you n*a, get a new attitude.”
Nelly’s Take on Performing at Trump’s Inaugural Event
In her freestyle, Janelle Monáe alluded to Nelly’s controversial performance at Trump’s inaugural ball on January 21. Prior to that event, Nelly had commented to ABC News, attempting to clarify that his performance was not politically motivated. He expressed that performing for the president was an opportunity he “never thought” would arise, emphasizing the importance of respecting the office regardless of personal beliefs. Despite facing criticism from social media users regarding his decision to perform, Nelly stood firm in his choice and maintained his stance.
