At times, life truly mirrors the narratives we see in film and television.
This sentiment was vividly illustrated when Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher completely overlooked the critical messages conveyed in their respective 2011 romantic comedies, which were fundamentally similar, as they embarked on an experiment to establish a friends-with-benefits arrangement—void of any emotional entanglements.Â
Reflecting on their experience, Kunis shared with Howard Stern in 2016, “I starred in Friends With Benefits, while he was involved in a film titled No Strings Attached. If we had taken the lessons from these movies to heart, we would understand that such situations are unlikely to succeed in reality. However, we clearly chose to ignore that wisdom. We both agreed, shaking hands, and said, ‘Let’s just enjoy ourselves!'”
Adhering closely to the premise laid out in their films, Kunis revealed that after approximately three months, she found herself thinking, “This isn’t enjoyable any longer!”
Consequently, she decided to reach out to her former co-star from That ’70s Show.
She recounted, “I realized that I genuinely care about him. I didn’t want to jeopardize what we had, so I thought it best to step back before things escalated beyond control.” During her 2018 appearance on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, she detailed that Kutcher responded, “Understood.” The following day, he surprised her by showing up at her home, proposing, “Move in with me,” to which she happily replied, “Okay.”
