Warning: This article contains minor spoilers for Lanterns season one.
The light of the Green Lantern Corps shines brightly in the DC Universe.
HBO Max’s new series Lanterns brings the intergalactic police force to the small screen, featuring veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as he trains new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) while investigating an extraterrestrial incident in rural Nebraska.
The show—which premiered on Aug. 16, with weekly releases until Oct. 4—is the latest addition to DC Comics’ reset, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which also includes movies Superman, Supergirl, and Clayface. As each project contributes to the DCU, co-CEO James Gunn revealed that this latest series is shining a green spotlight on the franchise’s future.
“Those elements are integrated,” he told Rolling Stone last October, also referencing Supergirl. “We knew both stories were part of our original plan, so they contribute to the overall tapestry while also standing alone.”
