How did authorities connect Kouri Richins to fentanyl?
An acquaintance of Kouri’s, identified as “C.L.,” informed detectives that a week prior to her arrest, Kouri had inquired if C.L. could obtain some painkillers for an investor with a back injury, as stated in the charging warrant reviewed by E! News.
Approximately two weeks after delivering hydrocodone to a house in Midway, Utah, where Kouri was flipping, C.L. reported that Kouri specifically requested fentanyl, indicating that the investor desired something stronger.
C.L., who police noted in the warrant has a history of drug offenses, contacted a dealer in Ogden, Utah, on February 11, 2022, and “procured 15-30 fentanyl pills from that dealer.” Kouri collected the fentanyl at C.L.’s residence and paid $900 in cash, according to detectives and the warrant.
Three days later, Eric became “very ill” after having Valentine’s Day dinner and “told a friend that he thought his wife was trying to poison him,” as alleged in the charging warrant. About two weeks later, according to C.L., Kouri requested another $900 worth of fentanyl. C.L. stated that the pills were obtained from the Ogden dealer on February 26 and delivered to the Midway property.
Authorities reported that Eric died of a fentanyl overdose on March 4.
