Hayden Panettiere‘s family and colleagues are seeking clarity regarding her passing.

The actress passed away in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16, with the city’s coroner reporting that emergency medical services were unable to revive her after discovering her in cardiac arrest. Although audio from the 911 dispatch call obtained by various outlets includes responders discussing a possible overdose, the official cause and manner of death have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.

Following Panettiere’s unexpected death, tributes emerged from several of her former co-stars, including Connie Britton from Nashville, James Kyson from Heroes, Solange from Bring It On: All or Nothing, and Kim Cattrall from Ice Princess.

Additionally, those who collaborated with her more recently, such as Justin Chatwin from her last film Sleepwalker, shared insights about her state leading up to her death.

“I could tell she was struggling, and I was like, ‘I don’t think it’s this movie,'” he told People regarding their experience on set in 2025 during an interview on August 17. “There’s a handful of women that I’ve worked with that I really liked, and I really loved working with her, but I also know that she was really lonely.”
